Westward HO! Stewart Leads ROCKSTAR/Makita into ASCS Wild West Swing
PETERSEN MEDIA: After several weeks off from competing with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour, Shane Stewart and his ROCKSTAR/Makita/Silva Motorsports team head to the West coast for six nights of action at three different tracks kicking off in Washington this weekend.
The West coast swing is one Stewart is particularly fond of because in the years prior to him hitting the road on the national scene, him and now car owner, Paul Silva, made their rounds out west driving for Mike Doyle in the potent Doyle’s Harley Davidson Machine.
Stewart and his team will first check into the Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, WA for the Fifth Annual Fred Brownfield Memorial. Stewart and Paul Silva have been very successful at this event in the past as they captured the first two editions of this race in 2007 and 2008 before charging to eighth from the B in 2009, and grabbing the second spot in 2010.
Following two nights of action in Washington, the series sets its sites to the racy Cottage Grove Speedway, in Cottage Grove, OR. The Cottage Grove Speedway has been one Stewart has had great runs at and picked off numerous wins. The last two years at the track Stewart has picked up a win and a fourth with the series. Early this year during a 410ci event at the track The ROCSKTAR/Makita A.R.T. was on its way to a victory before motor issues ended Shane’s night prematurely.
New to the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour schedule in 2011 is two nights of action at the tight confines of Placerville Speedway in Placerville, CA. Though new to the schedule on the national scene, this place is familiar to Stewart and car owner, Paul Silva as Silva grew up at the track and got his start as a car owner racing at this facility. The last time the duo made an appearance at this speedway was in 2009 when Stewart made a late race pass around the late, great, Jesse Hockett, to grab the win in front of a jam-packed crowd.
“I’m definitely looking forward to getting out West,” said Shane. “Paul and I worked for Doyle a few years ago and ran these tracks several times a season and had a lot of success at them. It’s also special because a lot of our sponsors are out West, and they don’t get a chance to watch us race, and its nice to show them what we do week in, and week out.”
