Northwest Extreme Late Model Series Make Anticipated Return To CGS

Cottage Grove, Oregon- This Saturday May 11th the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series will venture south to the Cottage Grove Speedway for Fan Appreciation Night presented by Knecht’s Auto Parts. Since the series’ introduction in 2010 the group has only visited the ¼-mile bull ring once, that being in 2011. It will mark the third race of 2013 campaign for the Pacific Northwest’s only touring Late Model organization.

In the 2011 race Billy Workman Jr. would score an emotional victory holding off both Greg Walters and Joey Tanner. So far Greg Walters has won the first two races in the current season which have all taken place at Sunset Speedway Park in Banks. After the May 11th visit the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series will visit CGS one more time on September 14th.

The series will compete alongside the regular Late Models of the Cottage Grove Speedway. Paul Culp was the winner of the first race of the year for the division while Northwest Extreme Late Model Series regular Collen Winebarger won the April 26th show.

“We hope to have similar results from last time,” commented Winebarger, “it’s going to be a busy day for our team because we plan on running the Late Model and Modified on Saturday. It should be a fun night”

After Cottage Grove the series will close the month of May out at Willamette Speedway on Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th for the annual Clair Cup. On June 1st and 15th the Sunset Speedway Park will have the organization back on hand. And closing the month of June the tour moves north to the Grays Harbor Raceway on Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th in Elma, Washington.

The Cottage Grove Speedway has hosted fast and exciting action as far back as 1956. Since then the ¼-mile banked oval has been regarded as a place where fast times are set and plenty of side-by-side racing occurs. Regular classes include 360 Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, NW Extreme Winged Sprint Cars, Late Models, Street Stocks, and Hornets from the months of April till October every Saturday night.
