Crockett doubles up with Lucas Oil ASCS at Cottage Grove
Bryan Hulbert - COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 20, 2013) For the second time in as many nights, Roger Crockett parked the SKS Racing No. 11 in Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real victory lane at the Cottage Grove Speedway to earn his sixth career Protect the Harvest A-Feature win and third of 2013.
“In our Hot Lap session, the car felt terrible. Turned out we had a bad shock but turns one and two were around the bottom and three and four was just really tricky. Once you got into turn three, you could run it almost wide open through turn one” commented Crockett on the night’s track conditions.
Drawing number four for the night’s lineup, Crockett rode third once the start took off on the third attempt as Cole Wood spun to a stop in turn four, followed by Jake Waddell in turn one, sending the fourth row of drivers to the tail.
Chasing Logan Forler and Seth Bergman, the Rocket Designs No. 11 raced past Forler on Lap 4 for second. Running down Seth Bergman on the high line of the Cottage Grove Speedway, Crockett made the move for the lead entering slower traffic on Lap 9, taking the lead of the following lap prior to a caution involving Brendan Boyce and Kyle Miller. Both drivers were okay.
Green to Lap 14 for a debris caution, the race resumed with Jeff Swindell having worked to the runner up spot from ninth.
Giving chase in slower traffic, Crockett slid between cars with ease as a final caution put the field back to a two lap dash to the finish with a pair of slower cars between Crockett and second running Jeff Swindell.
Back to green and Crockett went uncontested to the win. Jeff Swindell crossed second with Logan Forler coming back to third after falling as far back as fifth.
“We chased Crockett down there in lapped traffic and thought we were going to have something for him” said Swindell. “I was just taking my time but it seemed like the sea spit when he got to those lapped cars and I just couldn’t get through them for nothing. With the lapped cars between us with two laps to go he had it. He did a nice job.”
Crossing three wide, Jason Johnson edged Johnny Herrera and Seth Bergman to complete the top six.
Joie of Seating B-Main winner Henry VanDam came from seventeenth to seventh with Dustin Morgan charging to eighth from fifteenth. Shane Golobic from eighteenth and Mason Moore completed the top ten.
Three Heat Races began the night with Jeff Swindell, Reece Goetz, and Jake Waddell taking wins.
The Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real makes its final Northwest appearance on Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27 at the Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore.
