Mark Howard Memorial Will Be Final Leg Of Northwest Extreme Late Model Series Season

Cottage Grove, Oregon- Fifteen points. That is all that separates two-time Northwest Extreme Late Model Series champion Greg “Hollywood” Walters and Collen “Superman” Winebarger. The final round of the current campaign will take place at the Cottage Grove Speedway on Saturday September 14th for the Mark Howard Memorial.
Not only will the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series drivers compete on the famed ¼-mile clay oval but also the local CGS Late Model contingent. Main event championship points will be given to fully registered Northwest Extreme Late Model Series drivers. The highest finishing driver with the tour will receive fifty points, second highest finishing forty-six points, third forty-five, etc. All three past championships of this tour have been decided in the final laps of the final race of the season and it looks as if 2013 will feature an exciting climax.
Greg Walters enters the night with a lot of momentum after winning the last five series races brining his complete 2013 win total to eight. Collen Winebarger has won five races this year while Jerry Schram just has one. Collen Winebarger has won four main events at Cottage Grove this year including when the tour visited earlier this season in May.
The Northwest Extreme Late Model Series has visited the Cottage Grove Speedway two times. Billy Workman Jr. and Collen Winebarger have so far visited the winner’s circle with the organization when it has visited town. Will that trend of new winners continue this Saturday?
The Cottage Grove Speedway has hosted fast and exciting action as far back as 1956. Since then the ¼-mile banked oval has been regarded as a place where fast times are set and plenty of side-by-side racing occurs. Regular classes include 360 Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, NW Extreme Winged Sprint Cars, Late Models, Street Stocks, and Hornets from the months of April till October every Saturday night.
