Fans of the Cottage Grove Speedway were treated to some great racing on Saturday July 26th for Armed Forces Night. Classes in action included the BC Motorsports Northwest Extreme Sprints, Late Models, Northwest Extreme Modifieds, and Street Stocks.

In the BC Motorsports Northwest Extreme Sprints Colin Baker of Cottage Grove would take care of business. Starting dead last Baker would take the lead, in the Tim Galloway owned BC Motorsports #83 KPC, around lap ten. From there he would stay out in front for the rest of the distance to win his first BC Motorsports Northwest Extreme Sprint feature of 2014.

Finishing in second was the C&H Motorsports/Tangible Real Estate Investments/Dave’s Carpet and Vinyl Liquidators/Southern Oregon Veteran Benefits #3 Zeitler of Medford’s Dave Hibbard followed by Dusty Redmond from Roseburg in his Redmond Trucking/Whit-Log Trailers #57 Rocket in third. Completing the top five was Allison Journey of Springfield in her Journey Built Homes/Stone Works International/Rocket Designs/Eckstine Powdercoating #4J KPC in fourth and in fifth Patrick Dills from Cottage Grove in the All Seasons Equipment/Keith Whitaker Trucking/Inside Line Promotions/BC Motorsports #5D Hurricane.

In Late Model competition Rob Mayea would lead flag to flag in the caution free affair. Mayea, from Bend, would take care of business to put his J&S Farms/Cornett Racing Engines/Tim Logan Racing #37 Rocket in victory lane for the third time in 2014.

His nephew Shaun Mayea, also from Bend, would finish in second in the Cold Springs Resorts/R.G. Remanufacturing/Driving Force Graphics/Superior Fuel Cells #36 Rocket while in third was the My Boys Slate Fired Pizza/Taylor Restaurant Equipment/Mueller Commercial Services #18 MasterSbilt of Pleasant Hill’s Blaine Taylor. Crossing the wire in fourth would be La Pine chauffeur Trent Elliott in his VisitCentralOregon.com/Sunriver Style/AAA Home Inspection #4E Victory Circle and the No Drought Potable Water/IBEW Local 280/Stetson Racing Engines #08 Swartz of Sweet Home native Kye Frick was fifth.

In the Northwest Extreme Modifieds, Jimmy Owen was very quick come feature time. Owen, of Cottage Grove, was on his way to clean sweep when unfortunately his Eagle Racing Graphics/Dan Martin Excavating/Dirt Tracking/Bonnichson Repair #27 entry would break a drive shaft with just a few laps to go. Inheriting the lead and pacing the field the rest of the way would be Scott Akin from Crow in his Akin Racing #54 Monster. It would be his first career Cottage Grove Speedway victory.

Finishing in second place was the Go Plumbing #V4 machine of Tobey Ferrando from Salem while Jimmy Owen would be scored in third.

Last but not least the Street Stocks were in action once again. Evan Britton of Cottage Grove would hold off the competition but eventually checked out in the last five laps. It would be the teenager’s fifth Street Stock triumph for him and the Dot’s Trophy Shop/Ollivant Timber Salvage/D&L Truck Parts/Gilkison & Dad Inc. #85 Nova team.

Ethan Landers out of Bend was second in his Swan & Sons Woodworking/Smart Solutions/Les Schwab Tires of Bend #17Z Camaro and Eugene’s Marena Starr-Ferguson would complete the finishing order in her Myshkin Ferguson Racing/Brad’s Car Tunes #7M Camaro.

Cottage Grove Speedway will be back in action on Saturday August 2nd for the annual Historical Night. Classes in action will include the Huddle Automotive Repair 360 Sprints, Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Hornets.
