The Cottage Grove Speedway would host Cottage Grove Area Chamber Of Commerce/Pepsi Night at the races on Saturday August 9th. Classes in action were the BC Motorsports Northwest Extreme Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, Late Models, and Hornets.

In the BC Motorsports Northwest Extreme Sprints Dave Hibbard from Medford would seize the initial race lead. Hibbard, in his C&H Motorsports/Tangible Real Estate Investments/Dave’s Carpet and Vinyl Liquidators/Southern Oregon Veteran Benefits #3 Zeitler, would lose the lead around lap sixteen to Patrick Dills. Dills, hailing from Cottage Grove and piloting the All Seasons Equipment/Keith Whitaker Trucking/Inside Line Promotions/BC Motorsports #5D Hurricane, was in search of his first win of the campaign.

Dill would get passed on lap eighteen by Hibbard. Hibbard would stay out in front the rest of the distance to collect his third win of 2014.

Patrick Dills would finish in second followed by the Horner’s Inc./Steelhouse Metal Roofing Supply/BC Motorsports #75H Maxim of Cottage Grove’s Danny Horner in third. Colby Carter, also from Cottage Grove, was fourth in his Huddle Automotive Repair/Steelhouse Metal Roofing Supply/Oregon West RV/Hedge Carter Gutter Service #71JR Lunatik Fringe while fifth would go to the RCV Custom Coach Service/William & Mathis Accounting/Cobalt Computer Services/Commonwealth Financial Network #4 XXX of Jesse Thistle from Creswell.

In the IMCA Modifieds Kinzer Cox of Cottage Grove was the car to beat. Despite six cautions taking place Cox would retain the lead after the restarts. In just a handful of starts in a Modified Cox would pace the field for the entire distance to collect his first career victory for him and the Robert Howell Logging/Geo Synthetics/Razor’s Edge Graphics/Jerry Dills Trucking #1K Loose Gruff team.

Braedon Hand of Cottage Grove would finish in the runner-up position in the Todd’s Auto Body/D&D Automotive/Vintage Inn Family Restaurant/KNND 1400 AM #5 Shaw by S.D.M.F. while third went to the Curt Deatherage Auto Electric/Riviera Barber Shop/Mid-Valley Waterproofing/Rocket Designs #45 S.D.M.F. of Jason Kocks from Creswell. The rest of the top five would be made up of Jacksonville’s Mark Wauge in his Dog House Racing/Payroll Specialties Inc./Hoppes Construction/Schram Brothers Excavating #28M Impressive in fourth and Kreg Britton from Cottage Grove in fifth chauffeuring the Commonwealth Financial Network/Dot’s Trophy Shop/Mickey’s Affordable Auto Sales/Jim’s Tire Factory #77 X-Factor.

Working the highline and taking care of business Bend native Shaun Mayea would dominate the Late Model main event. Mayea would lead every single lap of the feature to pick up the victory in his Cold Springs Resort/R.G. Remanufacturing/Driving Force Graphics/Superior Fuel Cells #36 Rocket. It would be the fourth occasion that he has visited victory lane this season.

The My Boys Slate Fired Pizza/Mueller Commercial Services/Taylor Restaurant Equipment #18 MasterSbilt of Pleasant Hill pilot Blaine Taylor was second and Kevin Ropchan from Veneta in his Eugene Gutter Service/Quantum Mechanics/Real Deals Home Decorum/Gary Wilson Racing Engines #03 Swartz was third. Randy Martin of Eugene was fourth driving his Team S.D.M.F. #88M Warrior and the Mike Grable Construction/Mid Columbia Diesel #20 Rayburn of Lebanon’s Josh Sim would end the night in fifth.

Leading flag to flag in the Hornet main event was Joe Maricle. Maricle, out of Veneta and driving the Maricle Stainless #11 Toyota Celica GT, would cruise to victory lane to score his first win of the season and his first since winning the track championship last year.

Jayson Nelson from Springfield was second in his Quality RV Repair/Springfield Automotive Service #51 Honda Integra while in third would be Cottage Grove’s Eric Cooper chauffeuring the Eastside Rollforming Specialties/R&D Specialties #32 Nissan 200SX. The rest of the top five would be made up of Dexter’s James Donaldson in his Southside Auto & Muffler Service/Chase Gardens Café and Bistro/Froggy’s Towing #0 Pontiac Sunfire in fourth and the Bigg Dogg Recycling/Marvin Smith Auto Repair/Body Works Salon #41 Honda Prelude of Jim Simmons from Cottage Grove.

Cottage Grove Speedway will be in action this Friday August 15th for the 2nd Annual Summer Sizzle Tour which will feature the best Kage Kart drivers on the Pacific Coast.
