Cottage Grove, Oregon- Saturday April 18th will be an even greater night at the races at Cottage Grove Speedway as it honors one of it's most heavily involved car owners/drivers in the last decade or so, Melvin Walker. The event, which is Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce Night, will have a special event come feature time. The Quality RV Repair Hornets, one of the classes Walker drove in for several years, will be on tap and their main event will be named the “Salute To Melvin Walker”. We look forward to see Melvin and all of his wonderful family Saturday night.
Over the last ten years Melvin Walker has been involved in many different divisions at CGS including Demolition Derbies, Street Stocks, and Hornets. In fact not only did Melvin himself race on a regular basis but his wife, daughters, and other friends and family members competed as well in the familiar Froggy's Towing entries. In fact Melvin was instrumental in the first few years of the Hornet division by fielding several cars and helped the class grow significantly.
Classes competing include the Clark Printing Extreme Sprints, Late Models, IMCA Sport Mods, Street Stocks, and the aforementioned Quality RV Repair Hornets. Admission prices are Adults $13.00, Juniors/Seniors/Military $10.00, Youths (Ages 6-12) $5.00, 5 & Under FREE, and a Family Pass (consisting of two adults and up to four youths) is $30.00. Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 4:00, Qualifying 5:30, and Racing begins right around 6:45.
