Starks Secures Second Top Five of the Season During Debut at Skagit Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (April 20, 2015) – Trey Starks scored his second top five of the season last Saturday at Skagit Speedway.

However, Starks, who competed in his family car in the 410ci class and who drove for Doug Rutz in the 360ci division, battled bad luck and tough track conditions throughout his season debut at the semi-banked track.

“It was wild,” he said. “It was really rough. They had modifieds with us and that track is so soft so they completely rutted it up.”

Starks kicked off the event by qualifying third quickest in the 410 class. He was leading a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row when mechanical issues derailed him on Lap 3. If he would have finished the heat race in the top four Starks would have lined up on the outside of the front row for the main event. Unfortunately, the DNF relegated him to the sixth starting position for the feature.

“That track was so rough I couldn’t get the car to do anything and we were off in the main,” he said. “The track really took a turn and we didn’t prepare for it. I just kind of rode around in that main trying to keep my nose clean. I didn’t really want to play games with that track so we were a bit conservative.”

Starks ended with a fifth-place result.

He had similar misfortune in the 360 class after starting the night on the right foot. Starks, who set quick time during qualifying, had a wing panel blow off the car and faced throttle and brake problems while running third in a heat race. That dropped him to a seventh-place result, which lined him up on the outside of the eighth row for the main event.

“There wasn’t anything good that was going to come from it so we start and parked it,” he said. “We took our lap and pulled off and rolled it into the trailer in one piece.”

Starks was credited with a 21st-place finish.

He will make his season debut at Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, Ore., this Friday and Saturday during the inaugural Western Sprint Tour event.

“Cottage Grove is always racy,” he said. “It’s one of my favorite tracks. This car works really well at Cottage Grove. Last year we had some really good runs there and found some areas of success where other people couldn’t run.”
