The Northwest Extreme Late Model Series would be back in action after a week off for their second race of the season. The site was the historic Cottage Grove Speedway on Saturday May 9th. A total of fifteen entries would sign in on the registration sheets all from the states of Oregon and Washington. The NELMS touring regulars would be facing some stiff competition as they would take on the local Cottage Grove Speedway Late Models.

Gresham's Dave Walters would take the early race lead in his All In Property Investments/X-Factor Race Cars/Warpaint Motorsports Graphix/Joey Tanner Racing #67 MasterSbilt. Walters would lose the lead on lap five to Curtis Towns. Towns, of Cottage Grove and driving for car owner Paul Culp, would set a rapid pace and sliced through lapped traffic. Problems would occur though with about ten laps left as the Superior Fuel Cells/All Pro Steel/Rapid Delivery Service/Superior Silk Screen & Embroidery #42 X-Factor, of Towns, would slow down. Eventually he would stop on lap twenty-one due to a broken axle.

That would give Ron Brewster from Redmond the lead. Brewster, in the Central Oregon Trucking/Driving Force Graphics/W.W. Trailers/Öhlins by JDR #31B Rocket, would be in a heated battle with Portland's Joey Tanner. Tanner, in his father Jody's Tanner Racing/Extreme Motorsports #36 Victory Circle, would capture the lead on lap twenty-three and took off from there. Leading the rest of the way Joey would pick up the victory to make it two straight win for him with the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series.

Ron Brewster was second followed by the LW Motorsports/Metalworks Classic Auto Restoration #02A MasterSbilt of Tom Lawson from Veneta in third. Rounding out the top five would be Pleasant Hill's Blaine Taylor in his My Boy's Slate Fired Pizza/Taylor's Restaurant Equipment #18 MasterSbilt in fourth while the LNL Lumber Outlet/Quadel Industries/Q2I Archery/Monty's Racing Repair #77 Rocket driver by Eric Luckman, out of Coos Bay, was fifth.

Fast time of night and winner of the trophy dash was Curtis Towns. Heat races were won by Towns and Blaine Taylor.

The Northwest Extreme Late Model Series will take a week off as they prepare for the Memorial Day Weekend doubleheader at Sunset Speedway Park. The tour will venture to the “Banks Bullring” on Saturday May 23rd and Sunday the 24th for the next two events.
