In addition to the Western Sprint Tour in action at Cottage Grove Speedway on Sunday May 24th the IMCA Modifieds and Quality RV Repair Hornets played the role of support classes. A good car count was on hand for both classes and some exciting racing was to be had at the historic 1/4-mile clay oval.

In the IMCA Modified feature Springfield's Jake Mayden would grab the opening lead in his Embers Bar & Grill/Springfield Tire Factory/Chuck Bracelin Trucking #5M Dirt Works. Mayden would try to build a decent lead lead but several cautions would take place keeping the field bunched up. Unfortunately Mayden would lose the lead on lap eight to Jesse Williamson.

Jesse Williamson, of Eugene, would cruise right along but just like Mayden several cautions would take place resulting in the field staying bunched up together. Williamson would master each restart but in the closing laps he would receive some pressure from Corbett's Collen Winebarger. Williamson would hold him off to collect his second victory of the season at CGS in Huddle Automotive Repair Victory Lane for the NexGen Race Cars/Furniture Options/Double R Powdercoating #W5 NexGen.

The Discount Race Car Parts/Frisbie Motorsports/FinishLine Graphics/Elite Chiropractic #SW Shaw by Taylor of Collen Winebarger was a respectable second and Curtis Towns of Cottage Grove was third in his Superior Fuel Sales/IBEW Local 280/Valley Rose Construction/West End Performance #24 X-Factor. Completing the top five would be Jake Mayden winning the battle for fourth at the line over Cottage Grove's Kinzer Cox in the Robert Howell Logging/Hard Knocks Brewing/Scoggins Creek Coffee/Salisbury Farms #1K Loose Gruff.

In the Quality RV Repair Hornets Joe Maricle of Veneta got out to the early race lead. Maricle, in his Royal Refuse Service #11 Toyota Celica, would be threatened by Westfir's Josh Corley constantly just before the halfway mark. Corley would make the pass on lap nine, in his Burnett Builders #7C Nissan 200SX, but surrendered the lead on lap twelve.

Maricle would stay out in front the rest of the way despite Corley hot on his heels waiting for him to make an error. Maricle would make his third trip of the season to Huddle Automotive Repair Victory Lane in 2015 after the drop of the checkered flag.

Josh Corley was second and the Quality RV Repair/AP Media/Froggy's Towing #28 Acura Integra of Chris Pierce from Cottage Grove got third. Marcola's Brandon Letsom was fourth in the Letsom Racing #23 Toyota Echo followed by the Quality RV Repair/Pro Auto Works/Springfield Tire Factory #51N machine of Jayson Nelson out of Springfield.

Cottage Grove Speedway returns to racing on Friday May 29th and Saturday the 30th for the Marvin Smith Memorial Grove Classic. 360 Sprints, Late Models, and Vintage Cars will be in competition for both nights and joining them for Saturday only is the IMCA Modifieds.

Admission prices each night are Adults $13.00, Juniors/Seniors/Military $10.00, Youths (Ages 6-12) $5.00, and 5 & Under FREE. Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 4:00, Qualifying 5:30, and Racing begins right around 6:45 for both races.
