If you missed the races at Cottage Grove Speedway on Saturday July 11th you missed a classic. In addition to the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series in attendance the IMCA Modifieds would compete for the second and final night of the Mark Howard Memorial Cottage Grove Speedway Modified Nationals. The Clark Printing Extreme Sprints were also in competition for their only night of the weekend.

Nick Trenchard of Klamath Falls would lead the first laps of the IMCA Modified feature. Trenchard, in the Rich and Nicky Biehn owned Biehn Racing/Natures Images/Klamath Falls Lithia Dodge-Ford #54N Shaw by JT, stuck to the high side and was really fast for the first quarter of the distance. But eventually catching up with him was Jesse Willamson from Eugene. Williamson, who started tenth and driving his NexGen Race Cars/Furniture Options/S.D.M.F. Customs #W5 NexGen, would overtake Trenchard on lap fourteen. The first twenty-six laps would go non-stop and once the twenty-sixth lap was completed the field was brought to a halt at the midway point allowing crews to work on their cars.

Williamson would receive some pressure later in the race from Corbett's Collen Winebarger. Winebarger attempted a move on the inside of the leader on lap thirty-nine but unfortunately would spin resulting in the Discount Race Car Parts/FinishLine Graphics/Sweere Trucking/Checkered Flag Paving & Sealcoating #S Shaw by Taylor having to go to the back. On the restart Williamson would have his hands full with a couple of cars making a bid for the coveted position.

The Superior Fuel Cells/IBEW Local 280/Valley Rose Construction/West End Performance #24 X-Factor of Curtis Towns from Cottage Grove managed to make the bottom of the track work and made the pass on lap forty-two. Williamson would get up on the wheel and got the lead back on the forty-third circuit. Just when it seemed as if Williamson had full control he would be challenged once more with just a few laps remaining.

Jacksonville's Mark Wauge got to the front out of nowhere on lap forty-eight on the bottom. Jesse Williamson again would reclaim the lead via the high side on lap fifty but Wauge would edge him out at the stripe coming to the white flag. On the final corner of the final lap Williamson would get a little bit of momentum in his favor to beat out the Payroll Specialties Inc./Hoppes Constructions/ABC Powdercoating #1M Impressive, of Wauge, at the line by a slim interval of 0.080 seconds. It would be the fifth career Nationals win for Williamson making him the all-time winner of the event and his fourth in a Modified at CGS in 2015.

Mark Wauge was a very close second while the Berry's Oak Grove Storage/Propane 2 U/BRE Chassis #11X BRE driven by Tom Berry Jr. from Medford was third. The rest of the top five would be made up of Curtis Towns in fourth and in fifth Collen Winebarger who managed to come from the back of the pack.

Albert Gill of Medford would win the consolation feature in his Circle K Convenience Stores/All Creatures Animal Hospital/Aardvark Construction #89? Rayburn. Cottage Grove Speedway would also like to thank all the folks that bought lap sponsorship. They include Barbara Tennison, Travis Hoppes, Curt Deatherage, Frank Brewer, Boyce Racing, and Who Cares What You Think Racing.

In the Clark Printing Extreme Sprint division Orion Redmond would haul the mail around the historic 1/4-mile clay oval. The Roseburg youngster would utilize the high side of the race track the entire way and the only thing to slow him down would be two yellow flag incidents. Orion Redmond would be the first car to cross the wire, in his Redmond Trucking/Umpqua Sand & Gravel/Double R Powdercoating/Ken's Dry Cleaning #12 J&J, but unfortunately in the post race inspection he would be light at the scales resulting in a disqualification. Cottage Grove's Patrick Dills would be declared the winner for his first career victory for him and the Jacob Daniels Attorney at Law/Oregon State Representative Cedric Ross Hayden/All Seasons Equipment/LaChance Kofoid Enterprises #5D team.

The Huddle Automotive Repair/Royal Flush Environmental Services/Oregon West RV/Hedge Carter Gutter Service #71 XXX, piloted by Colby Carter of Cottage Grove, was second and Dusty Redmond, Orion's father and also from Roseburg, in his Whit-Log Trailers/Double R Powdercoating/Redmond Trucking/Ken's Dry Cleaning #57 Rocket. Fourth place would go to Dave Hibbard of Medford, who came from the back after a lap one incident, in the C&H Motorsports/Dave's Carpet & Vinyl Liquidators/Tangible Real Estate Investments #3 Zeitler while Chelsea Blevins of Janesville, California was fifth in her Tri-C Machine #1B A.R.T.
