Carter, Sell, Clay, Ray, And Hansen Score July 25th Wins At CGS

Cottage Grove Speedway would have a fantastic evening of racing on Saturday July 25th. The cooler weather was a welcomed change after several weeks of extremely hot temperatures. Classes that were in competition included the Clark Printing Extreme Sprints, Late Models, IMCA Sport Mods, Quality RV Repair Hornets, and the Late Model Lites.
The Clark Printing Extreme Sprints drivers were driving for some big money as the folks at Herz Precision Parts put up $1,000.00 to the winner. The extra purse would attract teams from the states of Oregon, Washington, and California.
Anderson, California teenager Chelsea Blevins would be very fast for much of the race. Driving her Tri-C Machine #1B A.R.T. she kept her mount out in front and due to the timing of the cautions did not have to deal with lapped traffic.
She would lose the position on lap nineteen to Cottage Grove's Colby Carter. Carter would not be out of the woods just yet as Blevins stayed on his tail tank for much of the remainder of the race. He would stay out in the lead for the rest of the distance to win his second race of the season in the Huddle Automotive Repair/Royal Flush Environmental Services/Oregon West RV/Hedge Carter Gutter Service #71 XXX.
Chelsea Blevins would finish second while the C&H Motorsports/Dave's Carpet & Vinyl Liquidators/Tangible Real Estate Investments #3 Zeitler of Dave Hibbard from Medford was third. Cottage Grove native Patrick Dills would place fourth in his Jacob Daniels Attorney at Law/Oregon State Representative Cedric Ross Hayden/LaChance Kofoid Enterprises/All Seasons Equipment #5D KPC followed by the deyounginc.com/Superior Powdercoating/ODS Synergy Composites/Shark Racing Engines #44 Rocket of Jake Helsel from Monroe, Washington in fifth.
The Late Model main event would be a caution filled feature. Sweet Home chauffeur Kye Frick was the early leader and was on a mission. Frick, in his No Drought Potable Water Service/Oregon Fuel Injection #08 Swartz, would be passed on lap thirteen by Salem's Brady Sell. Sell managed to keep the Left Coast Motorsports/South Pacific Auto Sales and Auto Center/Capital Assets & Paving/Oregon Jamboree #4 Swartz in front and win the race. What was amazing was that in time trials Sell made heavy contact with the outside retaining wall in turn four that put the future of his night in serious jeopardy.
Kye Frick would finish as the runner-up and in third would be the Joel Olson Trucking/Hinkle Fisheries/Spiralz Salon/Drager Performance #8D GRT of Vernonia veteran Doug Davenport. Bend driver Thomas Hunziker finished fourth in his A-1 Roofing/CertainTeed Building Products/Spirit Fueled Racing #38 Victory Circle and behind him in fifth was Salem's Britton Donahoo in the O&O Farms/Kartco Racing #5 MasterSbilt.
The IMCA Sport Mods would see a race dominated by Kolby Clay from Junction City. Driving the Frank Brewer owned West End Performance #16B entry Clay would take the lead on the first lap and stayed there the whole way. It would be his first career win in the IMCA Sport Mods in only his second career start in the class.
The Furniture Options/A-1 Auto Supply/Ashley Family Racing #85 machine of Gene Ashley, from Jasper, was second and Springfield's Jayson Nelson would finish his Quality RV Repair/Pro Auto Works/Springfield Tire Factory #51N BMS in third. The Akin Racing #54 Monster of Scott Akin from Crow would be fourth and Cottage Grove's Tyler Smith was fifth in his Ashley Family Racing/A-1 Auto Supply/Furniture Options/Kirk Racing #73 Harris.
The Quality RV Repair Hornets main event would have several cautions but also plenty of lead changes. Pleasant Hill's Justin Austin would get out to the front early in the Mike Swaim owned Rapid Delivery Service/Bigg Dogg Recycling/DT Machine & Fab/A-1 Auto Supply #22A Toyota Tacoma. Austin would get passed by the Dan's Automotive/South Valley Automotive #4 Nissan 200SX, driven by Dan Jenkinson of Marcola, on lap four. Austin would reclaim the lead on the ninth circuit.
Austin would stay in the desired top position until lap seventeen. The new race leader would be Cottage Grove's Mike Simmons in his Kimwood Enterprises/Industrial Finishes #51N entry. Unfortunately for Simmons he would spin shortly after a restart. This would give Austin the lead back.
Austin would have his hands full in the final laps with two other cars trying to overtake him. Coming to the white flag his right rear tire would go flat and take him out of contention for the win. Springfield driver Daniel Ray was there to capitalize. Ray would cross the line first in the Randy Kuhl owned DT Machine & Fab/Rapid Delivery Service/A-1 Auto Supply/Crump Logging #32 entry. It marked the first occasion that he has every won in the Hornet ranks.
Jim Simmons of Cottage Grove was second in his Kool Beans Espresso/Body Works Salon/Marvin Smith Auto Repair #89 Honda Prelude with the Junction City Muffler Shop/Guaranty Chevrolet/Twisted Bit Arena #23F Nissan Centra of Marcel Forte, from Junction City, in third. The rest of the top five would be made up of K.C. Scott from Springfield in the Dr. Vape Products/Quantum Mechanics/Big B Tire/T.L. Morgan Motors #30 Mazda Protege followed by fifth place finishing Andrew Mathers out of Eugene in his Kiwi Fab/Tomlins Auto & Tire/Trackside Auto Repair/Edge Construction Supply #7 Volvo Wagon.
The Late Model Lites would make their first visit of 2015 to CGS. Portland's Randy Hansen would lead every single lap in the Dave Weselowski owned PDR Solutions #16 car. Second place would belong to Lee Doty of Central Point in his Valley Store All #7 entry while the Stipe Engine Specialties/The Guys Automotive/Tom's Automotive of Prineville pilot Dan Prewitt was third.
Cottage Grove Speedway will be in action on Saturday August 1st for the Wallbanger Cup ran in memory of Mark Howard. This is the biggest Street Stock race of the season and will be attracting some really fast cars. Also racing will be the Clark Printing Extreme Sprints, Late Models, and IMCA Modifieds.
Admission prices are Adults $13.00, Juniors/Seniors/Military $10.00, Youths (Ages 6-12) $5.00, 5 & Under FREE, and a Family Pass (consisting of two adults and up to four youths) is $35.00.
