Van Dam Returns to Victory Lane at Grays Harbor for Fourth Time This Season

Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (Aug. 2, 2015) – Henry Van Dam captured his second straight feature victory and his fourth this season at Grays Harbor Raceway on Saturday.

The triumph tied his career high for wins in a season at the 3/8-mile oval, where Van Dam set the mark last season. However, Saturday night didn’t start off as well as it ended.

“We blew a tire in hot laps,” he said. “It took out all the right rear suspension parts and it bent some of the pins that went through the frame. We had to hurry for qualifying. I was pretty happy just getting out there and getting fourth quick. We still didn’t have time to get everything straightened back out for the heat race.”

Van Dam qualified fourth quickest and he finished where he started – third – in a heat race to lock himself into the feature inversion, which was a four to put Van Dam on the pole for the 25-lap main event.

“We took a stab at the setup and definitely our starting position helped out,” he said. “We just had to maintain and we were able to do that.”

Van Dam led the distance of the feature, but he constantly faced pressure from fellow Washington native Trey Starks.

“I definitely knew the pace would have to stay pretty quick,” Van Dam said. “I stayed aggressive throughout the entire race. We were able to get through lapped cars. I timed it pretty good. I saw Trey a couple of times, but knew where he was at on the race track he wasn’t going to get me.”

Van Dam, who has won four of his last 10 races, is slated to return to action this Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, Ore.
