Dills Deals with Adversity to Maintain Cottage Grove Championship Lead

Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (Aug. 31, 2015) – Patrick Dills was in championship form last Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway where he salvaged a good finish after near disaster struck.

Dills, who leads the Extreme Sprints championship standings at the quarter-mile oval, led the first handful of laps during the main event before he slowed on the track.

“I led about seven laps and then the car popped out of gear,” he said. “That’s the first time it’s done that to me. I had to go to the back and I worked back up to sixth. It was kind of frustrating, but those things are bound to happen.”

Dills was forced to restart at the back and he rallied to post a sixth-place result, which marked his 14th top 10 of the season.

“The car was pretty good,” he said. “There were a bunch of yellows. On restarts I’d go to the top in turns one and two and I’d pick off a couple of them. Then it started to lay rubber at the bottom so I moved down there to get a spot or two. That was a night that could have really turned ugly, but we were able to salvage it.”

Dills, who opened the night by qualifying second quickest, placing fourth in the trophy dash and winning a heat race, increased his points advantage.

“I was happy with the finish and from what I heard the fans were excited to watch me drive back toward the front,” he said.

Dills is scheduled to return to Cottage Grove Speedway this Saturday.
