Cottage Grove Speedway would be very busy on Sunday September 6th as well as Monday the 7th. The facility would host the Mike Lyons Memorial King Of The West Kart race. Mike Lyons was a multi-time champion at Douglas County Speedway as well as a huge supporter of Kage Kart racing in the local area. The event would have drivers from all over the state of Oregon as well as teams traveling as far as Nevada.
Tallon Dubisar of Coquille would win the finale in his Lil Stinker Portable Toilets/Denny's Pizza/West Coast Pressure Washing #14 QRC and led every single lap. The night before Elkton's Gavyn Woody got the job done in the Mary's Gateway Laundry/Horner's Inc./Harris Machine & Design/Les Schwab Tires of Cottage Grove #75W QRC and let every lap too.
In the 5HP Intermediates Trevor Grimes was the kart to beat. Grimes, of Trail, would win the first night after the original victor was penalized for a cone violation. On the second night he would get his Grimes Racing #100 RFC to the front around the halfway mark and would remain there. It was Grimes' first races at CGS in over a year.
Justin Lemon of Cottage Grove was a dominant force all weekend long in the 125cc division. He won the exhibition race against the 250 Karts on Saturday and it was just a taste of what was to come. Lemon, piloting the Phoenix Enterprises/Bear Racing Components/Griffith Family Racing/Inspection Center Northwest #42 QRC, led every single lap of the main events on Sunday and Monday.
Talyn Roberts of Gresham had a busy weekend. After finishing fourth in the Street Stocks at Coos Bay Speedway on Saturday night she would switch to the Karts on Sunday and Monday. Roberts, in her Big Sky Landscaping/Powers Transport/Scofield's Karts & Parts #T3 QRC, would get the lead just past the halfway point on Sunday to win the feature. She would back in up on Monday with a dominating performance by leading every single circuit.
Finally Kyle Alberding reigned supreme in the Open Kage. Alberding, in the WSK Machine/Eoff Electric Supply/Oregon Tool & Supply/Tom Ellum Fuel & Tire #76 QRC, would get the lead on Sunday after a restart and didn't look back. On Monday he would make a key pass in traffic and managed to keep all challengers behind him. Alberding became the first ever repeat winner of the King of the West race.
Don't forget the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series will visit Cottage Grove Speedway on Wednesday September 9th. Tickets are Adults $40.00, Juniors (9-17)/Seniors/Military $35.00, Youths (8 & Under) $10.00, and Pit Passes are $50.00. Racing is scheduled to begin around the normal 6;45 PM time.
