Dills Claims Cottage Grove Championship after Dominating Performance in Season Finale

Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (Sept. 28, 2015) – Patrick Dills capped his sophomore season in a sprint car the best possible way.
Dills secured his first career championship by winning his third Extreme Sprints feature of the season on Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway.
“I’ve been dreaming about running sprint cars, winning races and getting a championship since I was 4-years-old,” he said. “To accomplish my goals this year, it was perfect. We couldn’t have ended it a better way. It was a great moment for me and all of us.”
Dills had a dominating night at the quarter-mile oval, where he set quick time during qualifying with his newly freshened engine.
“I really want to thank Brian Crockett for his hard work,” he said. “This motor was a little different. When you stepped on the gas on the other motor it got up and went right away. This new motor took a bit, but there’s more speed at the end of the straightaway. It took me a while to get used to that.”
The team elected to sit out of the dash to concentrate on the points races during Saturday night. Dills then charged from fourth to win his heat race.
“I got into second in turn one on the top and then I slid the leader in turns three and four and led every lap,” he said. “Then a fan rolled the zero for the inversion so I started the feature on the pole.”
Dills took advantage of the great starting position as he quickly powered into the top spot.
“I got a really good start and I knew the person starting on the outside of me wouldn’t want to go to the top because they never run the top,” he said. “I took the bottom and it worked out. I went to the top in turns three and four and stayed up there after that.
“There were three or four yellows throughout the race, including one with about 15 laps to go. I was trying to pace myself and wasn’t driving it as hard as it would go. Another racer showed me her nose after that restart. We were side by side for a good five laps. That forced me to drive it harder and I came out with the advantage.”
Dills led every lap of the main event to claim the triumph, which also gave him 15 top 10s in 30 races this season.
