Cottage Grove, Oregon- 2016 has been a great season so far at Cottage Grove Speedway. The historic ¼-mile clay oval, celebrating its 60th Anniversary, has featured, some great racing, good car counts, and full grandstands. CGS returns this weekend for a doubleheader on the card.
The 2016 Season Opener for the Kage Karts will be the first event of the two. Featuring the upcoming talent of the Pacific Northwest, you can watch these future stars in action on Friday April 22nd. General Admission is FREE and Pit Passes are $10.00 and Car and Driver fees will be $35.00. The Pit Gate will open up around 3:00 PM and the Pit Meeting is at 6:00 PM with Hot Laps and Racing to follow.
The ¼-mile will be back in action on Saturday the 23rd. Classes featured include the 360 Sprints, IMCA Sport Mods, Late Models, and Quality RV Repair Hornets. The track will again be offering a special $10.00 admission for everyone ages 13 years and up. Children 12-6 are $5.00 and 5 and Under is FREE as always. Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 4:00, and Racing is scheduled to start around 6:30.
The 360 division will be sanctioned this week by the Interstate Sprint Car Series which hasn’t held an event since 2013 and the last time they visited CGS was in 2011. Roger Crockett managed to best the field in the one and only 360 showing of 2016 via a seventh starting position. The race is $1,500.00 to win and $200.00 to start and should attract some top tier talent of the entire region.
Jorddon Braaten was magnificent in last week’s IMCA Sport Mod event. He would perform a clean sweep and was undefeated every time he hit the race track. He plans to make it back this week and make it two in a row.
In the one and only Late Model race of the season it was Darren Coffell performing a late race pass on Britton Donahoo. It’ll be interesting to see all of the wealth of talented drivers that decide to show up and try to get a victory at Cottage Grove.
Last but not least the Quality RV Repair Hornets are expected to dazzle fans as always. In the first race K.C. Scott led the entire distance while in last week’s event it was a totally different race. Josh Corley managed to make a late race pass on Joe Maricle to come away with the victory against some stiff competition.
