Cottage Grove, Oregon- The Wingless Sprint Series would visit Cottage Grove Speedway on Saturday May 21st for their second race of the 2016 season. A good group of cars would assemble at the famed ¼-mile clay oval to battle for the trophy. A total of eleven teams would make the journey representing the states of Oregon and Washington.

Tacoma, Washington’s Jonathan Jorgenson would get out to the early race lead on the opening lap in his Jorgenson Manufacturing/D.G. Machine #2J XXX. Jorgenson would stay out in front until lap three when McMinnville veteran Lance Hallmark made the pass. Hallmark, making his Non-Wing debut in the Nushagak River Fishing Lodge #8H machine, would be in the coveted position for a fair amount of time until he spun in turn four on lap eight.

Rob Lindsey, from Sherwood, would inherit the lead from Hallmark. Lindsey blazed the trail until Salem’s Tim Alberding made a pass on the side to get the top spot on lap twelve. Alberding, in his Alberding Racing #52 XXX, battled hard in the late stages with Cooper Desbiens for the win.

Cooper Desbiens managed to obtain first place on lap twenty-four and would remain there the rest of the way to become the second different winner, in as many races, in WSS history. It also was the second consecutive week that the Sutherlin teenager had parked his J.H. Desbiens Construction/Budget Lumber/Lithia Autobody/Van Lare Steering Repair #4D Maxim in victory lane. The team had won in Winged Sprint Car competition at Coos Bay Speedway the previous week.

The Maxline Custom Cases/Summerfield Golf & Country Club/Speemart Inc. #23 XXX, of Rob Lindsey, was second while Redmond’s Josh Horner placed the Lynch Pro-Formance Products #7 J&J in third. Lance Hallmark recovered from the back to finish fourth while Junction City native Shane Forte completed the top five, in fifth, driving his Kun Fusion Food Truck/PI Graphics/Davis Cabinets/Guaranty Chevrolet #26F Maxim.

Rob Lindsey set fast time of the night and was the winner of the one and on heat race. Tim Alberding was triumphant in the trophy dash. The Wingless Sprint Series will head to Grays Harbor Raceway, in Elma, Washington, for the third race of the season. It will be the largest facility they visit and it is sure to produce some incredible speeds on the 3/8-mile oval.
