Dills Goes Back to Old Car and Wins First Race of the Season
Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 6, 2016) – Patrick Dills went back to an old car last weekend and it paid off. Dills drove to his first win of the year on Saturday in the Extreme Sprints class at Cottage Grove Speedway.
“They say it was all in my head … that the old car wasn’t any different than the other car,” he said. “All I know is we put the old KPC back together and it worked. All night I could put the car anywhere on the track. It was a very comfortable feeling.”
Dills opened the night by qualifying second quick. He then finished third in the dash before he won his heat race.
“We had three restarts on the heat and each time I drove to the bottom of the track and drove into the lead,” he said. “On the fourth restart I did it again. You would think someone would have gone down there.”
Dills was scheduled to start 11th in the feature, but cars tangled on the warm-up lap and that moved him to the eighth starting position. He worked his way forward and took the lead on the 17th lap to score his first victory of the year.
The win moved him into fourth in the championship standings – only 11 points out of first place.
Dills will be back in action this Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway in the Extreme Sprints division.
