Wallbanger Cup This Saturday At Cottage Grove; Karts On Friday June 17th
By Ben Deatherage
Cottage Grove, Oregon- After hosting four events in five nights Cottage Grove Speedway is back at again for two more shows this coming weekend. First things get started with the fourth Kage Kart race of 2016 on Friday June 17th and then Saturday the 18th will host one of the biggest Street Stock races in the western United States, the Wallbanger Cup. Street Stocks will be the headliner for Saturday while other classes running include 360 Sprints, Late Models, IMCA Sport Mods, and Quality RV Repair Hornets.

For the Kart races General Admission is FREE and Pit Passes are $10.00 and Car and Driver fees will be $35.00. The Pit Gate will open up around 4:00 PM and the Pit Meeting is at 6:00 PM with Hot Laps and Racing to follow.

The Street Stocks have only ran a few times this year but Saturday night they’ll be out in full force with over thirty cars scheduled to make the trip. Chris Sine, the defending track champion, has won the most main events with two trips to victory lane this year while Kevin Williamson is the only other winner and that was last Saturday at the Prelude To The Wallbanger.

Just like the Street Stocks the 360 Sprints have not seen much action at CGS in 2016. Roger Crockett won the first two races of the year while Jason Solwold was victorious in the final night of the Marvin Smith Memorial Grove Classic.

In the Late Models there have been three different winners in as many races. Britton Donahoo, Darren Coffell, and Ron Brewster have all found their way to the winner’s circle. We shall see if that pattern will continue or not this weekend.

Chris Frisbie became the second different winner in the IMCA Sport Mods last Saturday. Jorddon Braaten has been in fine form for the whole year and has won four times in four appearences.

Lastly in the Quality RV Repair Hornets Josh Corley got back to his winning ways. Corley recorded his fourth win of the current campaign making him the most victorious driver this year so far. Joe Maricle has three wins while K.C. Scott just has a single victory.

Times for Saturday are Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 4:00, and Racing is scheduled to start around 6:30. Tickets are Adults $13.00, Juniors/Seniors $10.00, Youth (6-12) - $5.00, Family Pass $30.00, and Children 5 or under are FREE. As will happen all year long in honor of our 60th Anniversary the 60th fan through the Front Gate gets in for FREE.
