Cottage Grove, Oregon- Cottage Grove Speedway would be quite busy on Independence Day, Monday July 4th. With the 360 Sprints in town for Speedweek Northwest the famed ¼-mile clay oval would also host IMCA Modifieds and Street Stocks. Both classes would have very good car counts.

In the IMCA Modified feature Cottage Grove’s Tyler Smith was in front on the first lap. Smith would be overtaken on the second circuit by Albany native Craig Hanson. Hanson led for much of the race but would get passed late on lap twenty. Jesse Williamson, of Eugene, was the man to make the move and held on to win his second race of the season at CGS.

Corbett’s Collen Winebarger was second followed by Craig Hanson. John Campos of Keizer placed fourth while Coos Bay youngster Preston Luckman finished fifth.

Justin Austin, of Pleasant Hill and driving for Art Hiatt, and Springfield’s Jake Mayden, and Craig Hanson were the heat race winners. Collen Winebarger was victorious in the Dot’s Trophy Shop Trophy Dash while the B Main was won by Albany chauffeur Matthew Drager.

The Street Stocks would have a good race as well. Eugene’s Chris Sine showed the way early until has was passed on the sixth lap by Kevin Williamson. Williamson, of Coburg and the youngest of three Williamson brothers, was briefly challenged during the main event but would stay in front to win his second race of the year at “The Grove”.

Chris Sine was the runner-up followed by his wife April Sine. The top five was completed by Jefferson’s Rick Chambers in fourth and Creswell driver Garrett Barth in fifth.

Chris Sine was fast time of the night as well as the winner of the Dot’s Trophy Shop Trophy Dash. Heat winners were Sine and Andrew Langan of Jasper.
