October 7th, 2017 Race Recap

The point season may have come to an end but the racing definitely didn’t stop! Over 90 cars signed into the pits to compete, some for the last time this year and some we will see just once more on the 14th.
The Quality RV Hornet class kicked the night off with a quick time of 17.390 by Eric Ashley. Graig Osborne picked up the James Heating and Air Conditioning Heat Race. A 6-car invert put him starting 6th for the Main Event. Joel Hazen and Eric Ashley set the pace and Hazen led lap 1. Brad Moffett quickly moved from 3rd to the lead and led all the rest of the laps to pick up his first win of the season followed by KC Scott, Gene Ashley, Graig Osborne, and Joel Hazen. Only 2 cars would make the call for the Dot’s Trophy Shop Dash and Gene Ashley and KC Scott battled for 4 laps until Ashley took home the checkers.
The IMCA Sportmods were joined by Willamette Speedway’s Sportsman cars for a fun mixed class. Rich McCoy set the fastest lap of qualifying with a 15.197. McCoy went on to win his James Heating & Air Conditioning Heat Race, Travis Pruitt picked up a heat win as well, putting the 2 cars in row 3 for the Main Event. Steve Smith and Ryan Emry led the field to the green and Emry busted to the front continuing to lead the entire race up to the final exit from turn 4 when McCoy made his move and took the checkered flag from Emry. Jayson Nelson finished 3rd with Travis Pruitt hot on his heels in 4th, and Matt Sanders rounded out the top 5. Travis Pruitt took home the hardware in the Dot’s Trophy Shop Dash
26 Dwarf Cars were in competition Saturday night and what a show! Camden Robustelli, Brian Smith, Josh King, and John Chrisman were the 4 James Heating and Air Conditioning Heat Race winners. Anthony Pope was the car to watch as he made it form 3rd in the B Main to win that race and continue into the A. The win gave him a 4th place starting spot. He quickly made it to 2nd following Brock Peters closely until inching past him on lap 7 and continuing on to get the win in the A Main as well, Robustelli, Jeremiah Hester, Calven Morton, and Chad Cordoza rounded out the top 5.
The Todd’s Auto Body Sprint class was full of local talent as well as lots of new faces traveling in to make the final show. Jake Waddell set a fast time of 11.424. James Heating and Air Conditioning Heat Races were won by Camden Robustelli and Devin Banes. A hard charger bonus from Bonnichsen Repair mixed the starting lineup up a bit and when it was time to race Steven Snawder and Hedge Carter shared front row honors. Carter and Shane Forte broke out to the front and quickly ran from the field. Carter led 18 laps of racing until he got up and off the track in turn 4, he was able to keep going and only lost 1 spot. Forte quickly grabbed the lead and went on to win the race over Carter. Jake Waddell finished 3rd and was counted as the hard charger passing 10 cars and collecting an extra $200.00 from Bonnichsen Repair. Camden Robustelli was 4th and Steven Snawder rounded out the top 5. Dot’s Trophy Shop Dash trophy went home with Camden Robustelli.
Mohawk Metal Modifieds had the biggest class of the night! 2017 champion Grey Ferrando set fast time with a 14.104. Jake Mayden, Jesse Williamson, and Preston Luckman were all victorious in the James Heating and Air Conditioning Heat Races. Tyler Smith and Gus Cooper led the field onto the track for the final main event of the night. Smith was able to lead the first 2 laps before the familiar W5 of Jesse Williamson took it over and led every lap and restart of a caution filled race adding another win to his resume. Smith finished 2nd followed by Ferrando, Jake Mayden, and Gus Cooper. Williamson also won the Dot’s Trophy Shop Dash.
Cottage Grove Speedway will be back in action for one final race in 2017 on Saturday, October 14th with 360 Sprints, Late Models, Sportmods, Street Stocks, and Quality RV Open Comp Hornets. General Admission will be just 10 bucks
