Cottage Grove, Oregon- Cottage Grove Speedway would have an enormously full house in the grandstands for Driver Appreciation Night on Saturday, June 2nd. A whole six classes would be in attendance with great counts all around. The Todd’s Auto Body Sprints, Mohawk Metal IMCA Modifieds, Late Models, IMCA Sport Mods, Street Stocks, and the Quality RV Repair Hornets.

Harrisburg’s Tyler Thompson was the man to beat in the Todd’s Auto Body Sprints. It looked like he was on to his second win of the season when unfortunately, he was caught up in an incident on the backstretch on the final lap. It would give the lead to Kinzer Cox, of Cottage Grove, but Cox would spin in turn four and was passed by Ricky Ashley for the win. It is the second time of the season that Ricky Ashley, from Thurston, has won at CGS this year.

In the Mohawk Metal IMCA Modifieds Ron Wilson showed the way for quite some time. The Coburg veteran would get passed on lap sixteen shortly after a restart. The one to make a pass was Springfield’s Jake Mayden. Mayden would remain in the spot the rest of the distance to earn his second win of the campaign.

Coos Bay teenager Preston Luckman would put on a dominating performance in the Late Model ranks. Getting to the front on lap six he would go unchallenged for the balance to park his entry in the winner’s circle for the first occasion of the year.

Doug Coffman showed the way for the first nine laps of the IMCA Sport Mod feature. Coffman, of Roseburg, would fall back to second after Jorddon Braaten made it around him. Braaten, from Central Point, would keep his car ahead of the competition and collected his first victory of the season at the famed ¼-mile clay oval.

Cottage Grove’s Ray Bloom would not look back after obtaining lead on lap four in the Street Stocks. Bloom had no issues afterwards as he went on to win for the second straight time. In the Quality RV Repair Hornets Oakridge chauffeur Josh Corley was the guy that everyone chased around. Unfortunately, he would be caught up in a last lap tangle and it handed over the lead to Graig Osborne. Osborne would win it and it was also the second straight Hornet win for the Creswell native.

Cottage Grove Speedway will be quite busy next Friday and Saturday as they host two events on the big track. Friday, June 8th, will be Fast Friday and fans get into the race for just $5.00. Saturday, the 9th, will be Kids Night which allows children twelve or under to get into the races for FREE.

Classes racing on Friday include the Mohawk Metal IMCA Modifieds and Dwarf Cars while Saturday includes 360 Sprints, Mohawk Metal IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods, Street Stocks, and Dwarf Cars. For more information log on to www.cottagegrovespeedway.com .
