Cottage Grove, Oregon- Cottage Grove Speedway would celebrate Independence Day in a big way on Wednesday, July 4th. Five full divisions would be in attendance throughout the night at the historic ¼-mile clay oval. The Todd’s Auto Body Sprints, Mohawk Metal IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods, Late Models, and Quality RV Repair Hornets. Fireworks would cap off the whole night of racing with a wonderful display honoring America.

Kinzer Cox took the initial race lead in the Todd’s Auto Body Sprints. The Cottage Grove driver would be passed on the third lap by Raquel Ivie, of Eugene. Ivie would not be able to develop a huge lead due to several cautions taking place. However, each and every restart she managed to pull away from the challengers.

On lap twenty-one Ivie would get caught in lapped traffic and passed back by Cox. Cox would capture the victory for his second win of the season. Shane Forte, out of Junction City, would beat Ivie to the stripe for second with Ivie in third. Cottage Grove’s Hedge Carter was fourth and Steven Snawder, from Roseburg, in fifth.

Cottage Grove teenager Evan Britton would get to the front early in the Mohawk Metal IMCA Modified main. Grey Ferrando, of Stayton, made a move around Britton to get to the front. Ferrando remained there until the seventh circuit when Albany’s Bricen James made it to the first-place position.

James blazed the trail the rest of the distance to win his fourth race of 2018 at CGS. Jake Mayden, of Springfield, was a close second while Grey Ferrando ended his night third. Albany native Dustin Cady placed fourth and Jeremy Richey, from Phoenix, completed the top five, in fifth.

Jorddon Braaten would put forth a dominating effort in the IMCA Sport Mods. The Central Point chauffeur led every single lap and won his third main event of the season at Cottage Grove. Fellow Central Point driver Rich McCoy got second while Art Hiatt, of Eugene, finished third. Winston’s Buddy McHargue was fourth while crossing the wire in fifth would be Travis Pruitt, out of Molalla.

In the Late Models Preston Luckman would be the driver to beat early. But the Coos Bay driver would battle hard with Casey Vitale with Vitale making it past Luckman on lap twelve. Vitale, of Lebanon, would cruise around the track and took care of business the rest of the way to earn his first CGS win of 2018. Luckman was second with Albany veteran Craig Hanson getting third. Bryan Norton, now residing in Salem, finished the night fourth and behind him, in fifth, was Lebanon’s Josh Sim.

Lastly in the Quality RV Repair Hornets it would be Josh Corley out if front most of the way. After seizing the lead on lap eight from Jasper’s Gene Ashley the Oakridge gasser, of Corley, had no issues afterwards and would win for the fifth occasion this season at Grove. Graig Osborne, from Creswell, was the runner-up and Eric Ashley, also from Jasper, was third. Gene Ashley finished fourth with fifth going to Brad Moffatt, of Eugene.

Cottage Grove Speedway is set for racing this Saturday, July 7th for the Herz Precision Parts Wingless Nationals. The night will feature the Wingless Sprint Series, Mohawk Metal IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods, and Quality RV Repair Hornets. For more information log on to www.cottagegrovespeedway.com.
