Cottage Grove, Oregon- The Wingless Sprint Series would have their biggest race of the year on Saturday, July 7th. Cottage Grove Speedway would be the venue of action and it marked the fourth occasion that the series had ventured there in 2018. Twenty Non-Wing Sprint Cars from Oregon, Washington, and California comprised of the roster.

At the drop of the green flag, for the fifty-lap main event, Jonathan Jorgenson took to the front right off of the bat. Jorgenson, from Tacoma, Washington and racing for Sterling Kane, held the top position for an impressive amount of time. On the twenty-first lap Trent Carter made the pass on Jorgenson for first.

After a brief stoppage on lap twenty-three, for fuel, Carter would resume the race as the pace setter. Carter, now residing in Huntington Beach, California, would be ran down on the twenty-sixth pass around the ¼-mile. Kyle Miller would be the driver to make the decisive maneuver.

Kyle Miller, racing for Kady Adelman and from Salem, motored his mount away from the field and dominated the balance of the distance. Miller would cross the stripe in first to win his seventh career Herz Precision Parts Wingless Nationals. It his second WSS of 2018 and his sixth career series triumph.

Ricky Ashley, out of Thurston, rallied to runner-up finish followed by Trent Carter, in third. Jonathan Jorgenson ended his evening fourth with the top five being capped off by Lindsay Barney, of Eagle Creek, in fifth.

Kyle Miller would claim the Maxline Custom Cases Quick Time Award. Van Raden Industries heat race winners were Kyle Miller, Ricky Ashley, and the Rob Lindsey owned entry driven by Cottage Grove’s Nate Ellertson. Miller also went on to win the Herz Precision Part Pole Shootout to start up front but accepted the crowd’s challenge to start dead last. Miller would also be the Speedmart Inc. Hardcharger Award.

The Wingless Sprint Series return to racing on Saturday, July 21st. It will mark the return leg to Willamette Speedway where they battled it out on the 1/3-mile clay oval back in late June. For the latest news and information log on to wingless.nwextremeseries.com .
