Thompson, James, Luckman, B. Ray, And Corley Earn Historical Night Wins At CGS

Cottage Grove, Oregon- Cottage Grove Speedway hosted the 2018 Historical Night on Saturday, August 25th. The famed ¼-mile clay oval inducted the newest class into the Wall of Fame and had five classes on tap for racing action. Division in attendance included the Todd’s Auto Body Sprint Cars, Mohawk Metal IMCA Modifieds, Late Models, IMCA Spot Mods, and Quality RV Repair Hornets.
The Todd’s Auto Body Sprint Cars witnessed A.J. Harbaugh set the pace early. The McKenzie Bridge teenager maintained the top spot until the second circuit when Cottage Grove’s Kinzer Cox made the pass. Cox held on until the fourth time around the track when he himself surrendered the lead to Tyler Thompson. Thompson held on the rest of the distance despite some incredibly tight action in lapped traffic. It marked the fourth win of the season for the Harrisburg driver.
Creswell veteran Gus Cooper blazed the trail early in the Mohawk Metal IMCA main. C.J. Putnam, of White City and racing for car owner Don Romer, obtained the lead on lap two only to lose it back to Cooper on the third circuit. Cooper stayed out in front for some time before Bricen James made it by him. James, from Albany, had no issues once getting to the point and won his seventh Modified race at CGS this year.
Once getting up to first on lap eight Preston Luckman took care of business in the Late Models. The Coos Bay chauffeur went to visit victory lane for the fifth occasion this year. Amity’s Bruce Ray put forth an incredible performance in the IMCA Sport Mods. Ray obtained the spot on the fourth trip around the park and held off all challengers to win his first race since 2002 at “The Grove”. Josh Corley, of Oakridge, was under constant pressure in the Quality RV Repair Hornet feature. Despite having his hands full at moments Corley secured his seventh victory of the campaign.
Cottage Grove Speedway will have the Kage Karts take center stage Saturday, September 1st, and Sunday, the 2nd. The facility will host their biggest Kart race of the year for the Mike Lyons Memorial King Of The West race. For more information log on to www.cottagegrovespeedway.com.
