Cottage Grove, Oregon- Another busy weekend is at hand at Cottage Grove Speedway. Race six of the Kart program will open things up on Friday, July 26th. Saturday, the 27th has the return of the 2019 Logger’s Cup, the biggest Late Model race of the season at CGS. In addition to Late Models, the Interstate Sprint Car Series will return along with IMCA Sport Mods, Street Stocks, and Hornets. Being that it’s the Logger’s Cup all folk involved in the timber industry get into the races for just $10.00. But wait, the fun doesn’t stop there as fireworks will cap off the entire night.
On Friday for Karts the Pit Gates open at 3:00 PM and the Pit Meeting (with Hot Laps/Racing to follow) at 6:00. General Admission is FREE, Pit Passes $10.00, and Car/Driver Entry $35.00. On Saturday the Pit Gates open at 1:00 PM, Front Gates 3:30, and Time Trials at 5:30 with Racing beginning at 6:00. Tickets are $13.00 for Adults, Seniors/Juniors/Military $10.00, Youths (6-12) $5.00, and Children (5 & Under) are FREE. CGS offers a Family Pass (2 Adults and up to 4 Youths) for $35.00, VIP Skybox Seating is $25.00 each, and Pit Passes are $30.00. The Logger’s Cup is a race that originated in the 1980s with the old Super Stock division. The race was reintroduced in 2015 and in that last four years there have been four different winners. Curtis Towns, John Duty, Joey Tanner, and Collen Winebarger have all emerged victorious at this event. Winebarger is the defending winner of this race and Preston Luckman is the defending track champion.
Locally, in 2019, at Cottage Grove both Kye Frick and Paul Culp have both won two main events this season. Brian Smith and Joey Tanner are the only two one-time victors. Twenty-eight different drivers have ventured to Cottage Grove at least once this season.
The Interstate Sprint Car Series has just visited “The Grove” only just once on June 14th with Tanner Holmes winning that night. Tyler Thompson has the most local Todd’s Auto Body Sprint wins, at three, while Holmes has bested the field twice. Kinzer Cox, Ian Bandey, Camden Robustelli, Jared Hood, and most recently Steven Snawder have all visited victory lane on one occasion.
In the IMCA Sport Mods, Braedon Hand is atop the winner’s sheet with the three trophies that he has acquired. Matt Sanders, Jorddon Braaten, Gavin Robchan, and David Schmidt have a pair of victories to their names. Skyler Winebarger and Buddy McHargue are the two individuals with just one win.
In the Street Stock ranks both David Schmidt and Kelly McDonald are level with two wins while Brian Cronk and Justin Evans have hit “pay dirt” just one time. Lastly, Brad Moffett’s recent Hornet triumph gives him the most appearances to the winner’s circle to bring his grand total to three. Joe Maricle, Mark Milligan, and Graig Osborne all have two wins to their credit and Eric Ashley remains the only driver to tame the field once.
