Cottage Grove, Oregon- The cars and stars of the Summer Thunder Sprint Series are back at Cottage Grove Speedway this Friday, August 2nd and Saturday, the 3rd. It will be the last chance to see a two-night 360 Sprint Car race in 2019 at CGS. It also marks the lone occasion that the predominantly Washington State-based tour crosses the Columbia River and runs in the state of Oregon. Mohawk Metal IMCA Modifieds will race both nights with both the Street Stocks and Hornets added to the card on Saturday.
Friday the Pit Gates open at 1:00 PM, Front Gates 5:00, and Time Trials at 6:00 with Racing beginning at 7:00. Saturday the Pit Gates open at 1:00 PM, Front Gates 3:30, and Time Trials at 5:30 with Racing beginning at 6:00. There have been four races at Cottage Grove with the Summer Thunder Sprint Series. Amazingly in four completed events, there have been four different winners. Justyn Cox, Eric Fisher, Jason Solwold, and Logan Forler are all winner with the group at “The Grove.” In 2019 at 360 Sprint action at CGS Jason Solwold has two wins. Drivers with a single race victory include Justyn Cox, Mitchell Faccinto, Jake Wheeler, and Kyle Hirst.
So far this year there have been eleven STSS events and have seen eight different drivers grace victory lane. Jason Solwold, Seth Bergman, and Devon Borden are all tied for the most victories, with two each. Drivers with a single triumph include Blake Hahn, Roger Crockett, Robbie Price, Matt Covington, and J.J. Hickle.
Collen Winebarger is atop the win column in the Mohawk Metal IMCA Modified division. Winebarger has procured four wins while Bricen James and Jake Mayden all have won twice. Drivers with a single victory include Kellen Chadwick, Eric Ashley, Jesse Williamson, Kevin Williamson, and Derick Young.
In the Street Stock ranks David Schmidt is now atop the leaderboard as far as victories are concerned. Schmidt leads the class with three triumphs over Kelly McDonald’s two. Brian Cronk and Justin Evans are the two drivers with just a single trip to the winner’s circle.
It has been one incredible year in the Hornet division. Brad Moffett leads in points and wins, with three separate times he’s hoisted the victor’s trophy. Incredibly there is a four-way tie for the second-most wins this season between Graig Osborne, Eric Ashley, Joe Maricle, and Mark Milligan. No driver has just one win to his credit this season.
