Cottage Grove, Oregon- The Wild West Modified Shootout traveled to Cottage Grove Speedway on Monday, August 9th. It was the second track of the tour but the fourth date of action on the schedule. Twenty-nine IMCA Modifieds filled the pit area, as did twenty-four Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern Sport Mods presented by Royalty Core Custom Grille & Truck Parts.

Unfortunately, the forty-lap IMCA Modified feature started on rough with a multi-car tangle on the opening start. When green flag racing finally began, Collen Winebarger convincingly took over the race lead. A total of five cautions slowed the field down, which made restarts essential for the pacesetting Winebarger.

Winebarger, from Corbett, witnessed a brief scare when he went off of the top of the final set of corners in lapped traffic on lap thirty. He was beaten to the line by Coburg’s Jesse Williamson, but a yellow came out before the entire lap was considered complete, thus giving first place back to Collen.

Collen Winebarger dominated the rest of the distance to win his second race of the 2021 Wild West Modified Shootout and his tenth in tour history. It is the second straight series win at CGS for Winebarger and has now won three total Speedway Motors IMCA Weekly Racing program events, two of which have been in KMJ Performance Oregon State action.

Jesse Williamson was second, followed by Mark Carrell, from Redmond, in third. Otis teenager Eston Whisler was an impressive fourth while Eric Ashley of Jasper posted a fifth-place finish. Creswell chauffeur Paul Culp won the B Main, and Whisler received the Eagle Track Raceway Hard Charger Award.

In his first-ever appearance at CGS, Ryan Peery was the juggernaut in the Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern Sport Mod, presented by Royalty Core Custom Grille & Truck Parts, main event. Peery entirely led the twenty-five-lap race, but he did have to deal with six yellows.

From Yreka, California, Ryan Peery won his second race of the week and fourth in KMJ Performance Oregon State competition.
Peery now has an incredible ten wins in the Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern Sport Mods.

Springfield’s Dustin Comer ended the race the runner-up, and Winston racer Aaron Bloom posted a third-place finish. Justin Ryker, of Cottage Grove, and Jordan Henry, from Roseburg, wrapped up the top five in fourth and fifth. La Center, Washington pilot Tanner Krohling was the winner of the consolation feature.

The Wild West Modified Shootout remains at Cottage Grove Speedway on Tuesday, August 10th, for the fifth round of the 2021 calendar. Both IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern Sport Mods, presented by Royalty Core Customs Grille & Truck Parts, will be in the house.
