Cottage Grove, Oregon- Tuesday, August 10th was the second straight night of racing for the Wild West Modified Shootout at Cottage Grove Speedway. Twenty-two IMCA Modifieds and eight Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern Sport Mods, presented by Royalty Core Custom Grille and Truck Parts, were in attendance.
For the forty-lap IMCA Modified main event, it took three attempts to get the first lap of the race. However, once the racing was underway, Jake Mayden seized first place. The Springfield racer held on to the position until being overtaken on lap nine.
It was to be a caution plagued affair as nine total stoppages occurred. However, when it was all done, Jesse Williamson, from Coburg, was the first car to the line to earn his fifth win at Cottage Grove.
It is also his sixth in KMJ Performance Oregon State action and seventh in Shaw Race Cars Western Region competition in 2021. It is the second triumph of the current Wild West Modified Shootout, the fifth of his career at CGS during the tour, and his series-leading fourteenth victory.
Corbett’s Collen Winebarger ended the race second with third place going to Eston Whisler, from Otis. Eugene veteran Paul Rea was scored fourth, with fifth going to Jake Mayden. Finally, the Eagle Track Raceway Hard Charger Award recipient was Jared Domingos, from Santa Maria, California.
The Karl Customs IMCA Northern Sport Mod division had several stoppages in their feature. As a result, the field would slow down a total of six times, but one thing remained the same. And that was that Ryan Peery was in fine and dominant form.
The Yreka, California teenager took possession of the lead on the opening start. Then, despite all of the yellows and restarts, Peery intelligently navigated the ¼-mile clay oval track. Peery scored his third win of the week, his fifth in KMJ Performance Oregon State competition, and eleven total wins on the year.
Creswell’s Ray Bloom and Matt Sanders, from Brookings, were second and third. Springfield chauffeur Daniel Ray hit the line fourth while placing fifth was Kevin Williamson, of Coburg, driving the Ray Comer Jr. owned mount.
The Wild West Modified Shootout heads to Sunset Speedway Park on Thursday, August 12th, for the fifth round of action. Both IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern Sport Mods will be in the house.
