Winningham, M. Sanders, Swaim, And Bryant Win First Night Of CGS Freedom Cup
Cottage Grove, Oregon- Cottage Grove Speedway touched off their first of three straight nights of racing on Saturday, July 2nd. The historic ¼-mile clay oval had four divisions on hand for night one of the 2022 Freedom Cup. They included the Todd’s Auto Body Sprints, Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods presented by Royalty Core Custom Grille & Truck Parts, Street Stocks, and Mach-1 Racing Solutions IMCA Sport Compacts.
Cottage Grove’s Tim Minter took control of the point of the Todd’s Auto Body Sprint Car main event from the opening start. Minter would hold down the position until he was overtaken shortly after a restart. T.J. Winningham of Central Point was the one to surpass Tim for P1.
Winningham tried to take off from the rest of the pack, but Tanner Holmes briefly got around him only to be passed back by T.J. A caution would occur, putting the battle for the lead on ice. Nevertheless, T.J. Winningham held on to win the main event.
Tanner Holmes, from Jacksonville and racing for car owner Brian Crockett, earned second while third would go to Austin Sause of Coos Bay. Jacksonville’s Carly Holmes hit the line fourth while David Marble, from Shady Cove, was fifth.
