Cottage Grove, Oregon (August 24th, 2024)—The Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts, presented locally by Kiefer, had a dynamite of a feature with Kerry Cooper scoring the triumph with a last lap pass at Cottage Grove Speedway's Back To School Night. It is the second win of the season for the Cottage Grove chauffeur.

The race started with Eli Miller gaining control of the lead at the start, only to be overtaken by Tiffany Towns on lap two. Towns tried her best to escape from the rest of the field, but Burnie Bryant closed in on the leader with seven circuits to go.

Unexpectedly, Bryant's lead was short-lived as mechanical issues slowed him down on lap seventeen. At the same time, Cooper made a swift move around Bruce Miller for second place.

The race took a dramatic turn as the leader Towns began to smoke significantly, slowing her down as she approached the white flag. This unexpected twist allowed Cooper, who had started in seventh place, to take the lead and cross the finish line first.

Scarlett Drake's impressive rally from sixteenth place to second, and third finishing Bruce Miller completed the podium.

Wingless Sprints, Street Stocks, and the Junior Compacts were also in attendance. Kinzer Cox, Adam Applebee, and Kasey Simmons were the winners.

Cox got to the lead at the drop of the green in the Wingless feature. The Creswell pilot had no issues pacing the field the entire distance to score the victory. Ricky Ashley was the runner-up, followed by his father, Gene, in third.

Eugene's Adam Applebee took care of business in the Street Stocks again as he led wire-to-wire for his fourth victory of 2024. Brad Hicks finished second.

Lastly, the Junior Compacts feature had Shane Dowty show a lot of speed in the first few laps. However, after a restart with two circuits complete, he would be overtaken by Creswell teenager Kasey Simmons. Simmons had no issues the rest of the way to collect his third straight win of the season.

The race for second would be a dogfight, with Tynlee Mayden beating out Rowen Lancaster at the line.

The event was broadcasted on IMCA TV affiliate Dirt Oval TV.
